About
According to a recent report by ScotlandIS entitled ‘Enabling a Digital Scotland’, Scotland could add £12bn to its economy, create 20,000 additional high-value jobs and create 1000 new businesses over the next five years by embracing digital technologies.
Mobile Communicatons
Recent Ofcom research has examined the extent of the UK’s fascination with Smartphones, with 37% of adult Smartphone owners describing themselves as being ‘highly addicted’ to the technology.
27 per cent of adults and 47 per cent of teenagers now own a Smartphone according to Ofcom’s latest Communications Market Report.*
The report also highlights the extent to which digital media is taking over from conventional forms of communication.
Think Digital Scotland 2012 will offer the opportunity to hear from leading providers on the generation of communication and how this can be utilised in your business
Online presence
The internet presents a vast opportunity for SMEs, but how can these opportunities be exploited?
The Boston Consulting Group, commissioned by Google, found that domestic online shopping, broadband access and net exports of digital goods and services made up 7.2 per cent of UK GDP, with about half of that sum generated by eCommerce activity. While the UK lacks a homegrown online retail giant on the scale of Amazon or eBay, BCG found that a multitude of small and medium-sized businesses are taking advantage of online distribution.
Cloud Computing
Adopting the Cloud can save money.
The key benefit of a Cloud approach is one of scale; the Cloud provider can potentially offer a better service at a lower cost because the scale of their operation means they can afford the skilled people and state-of-the-art technology necessary to deliver a secure service. In general, a large Cloud provider is likely to provide a better and more secure IT service at a lower cost than a small to medium-sized enterprise could provide itself.
Think Digital Scotland 2012 is specifically designed for businesses and looks at key digital media channels and how you can use these to your advantage.
